See Where Water Can Be Traded

By | 24/11/2016

I’ve added a new feature to the website, the Water Trading Opportunities Chart. This page lets you see where temp water can be traded in real time.

One of the criticisms of the water market is that information is in various places and there is no easy way to piece it all together. There are four governments running the Southern connected system water market; federal, NSW, Victoria and South Australia. Each have their own systems and ways of reporting.

Fortunately, the market is set up so that trade between the jurisdictions is easy. The only problem is piecing together the information.

My chart scrapes the trading restrictions from three of the authorities websites (MDBA, NSW and Victoria) and puts the current trading limits on the chart. It’s a schematic chart (ie not to scale) so it’s easy to follow. Here is a demonstration of what you’ll see:

Please check out the page! There will be new features added in the coming months.

What else will help you?

If you have an idea for a tool for helping you make water trading decisions, please let me know. I’m keen to help the water industry grow by introducing transparency and providing better information about the market.

Most of the information is already out there, the challenge is putting it together to give irrigators relevant information. The market is fairly transparent, but only if you know where to look. This is where I’d like your input, to know what you need.
